Closing Date: 25 June 2018
Most companies want you to join their finance function.
We need you to create ours.
Who we are
We’re a UK-based €60m turnover gases business with significant private equity backing.
We have a market leading position and are growing globally. Our aim is to be the dominant player in reclamation refrigerants.
Less than 12 months ago we acquired a €1.3m turnover business in the Netherlands. Now we’ve set our sights on Germany. The recent acquisition of a €40m turnover business in Seevetal, cements our ambition to treble our business in Europe over the next five years.
Which means huge opportunity for the people in our business.
People like you.
Prior to our acquisition, bookkeeping activity at the site in Seevetal has been delivered by a sister company. During the next 3 months we’ll be transitioning all finance activities into a new finance function in Seevetal.
Our key focus is on getting the fundamentals of a finance team up and running – things like bank accounts, monthly financial reporting, payroll and systems integration.
Your goal as finance manager is to develop things. Significantly.
So, in the first 90 days you’re going to develop formal robust monthly financial reporting. Secondly, you’ll work on building the relationships needed to deliver strategic finance business partnering to other departments.
Within 12 months you’ll know you have been successful when:
Transition is complete and a fully operating finance and accounting system is in place;
- You’re driving full month end reporting with associated controlled balance sheet accounts;
- The business is compliant from a financial and legal perspective;
- Collaborative business partnering relationships and robust forecasting is in place;
- You’re an active part of the group-wide Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) project.
This role comes with great autonomy. But you won’t be alone. You’ll be able to draw on the support of our brilliant colleagues in Seevetal, as well as the European finance team in the UK.
Career paths will naturally open as our European growth takes hold. This might be a progression from Finance Manager into a Financial Controller position. Or it could mean secondment opportunities to a newly created Shared Service Centre. One thing is for sure. If you want opportunity, we can provide it.
Who you are
Ideally, you’ll have a degree in accounting or at the very least, a similar level of experience.
Your technical experience is broad and covers the breadth of a fully functioning finance department – things like management accounts, year-end, budgeting and VAT. But you don’t need to be an expert in all areas. You will get support from our team.
Crucially you must be able to build relationships with people. This means persuading people to your point of view and often being robust, because there are certain things that simply must be done.
Equally important is that you’ve experience of international accounting within a medium sized business. You’re not joining a large corporate. Things happen at pace. Decisions are made quickly. Change happens fast. You’ll be part of a more agile business.
Finance manager experience in a production or manufacturing setting is helpful. Given the international nature of our business, it goes without saying that you must confidently speak both fluent German and English.
Sound appealing? Then we are likely to be a good fit.
What we’re offering
We offer a competitive starting salary. If you work hard and help us achieve our company goals, then you’ll also share in the profits. Money aside, you’ll have plenty of autonomy to design and establish the finance function in a mature but recently acquired, fast-growing business. Our positive working culture, emphasis on a healthy work-life balance and access to learning and development help keep our retention levels high. Plus, there’s the opportunity to play a key part in our European ambition.
